Who is behind Kiddos?

I’m Emese Pócsik — senior web developer, frontend trainer, parent, and founder-owner of SmartKiddos®

I have spent twenty years designing digital products and building frontends. I have worked on complex international systems, built web solutions large and small, and as a trainer I have helped several thousand adults understand programming and how the digital world actually works.

There is no faceless tech company behind SmartKiddos® — there is a millennial mother who wanted to create a digital space for children where time in front of a screen genuinely serves their development.

How was Kiddos born?

The idea took shape one summer afternoon at an indoor playground. Watching the children, I kept thinking how hard it is to find an app that is safe, well made and genuinely valuable all at once. I wanted to avoid the flashing mass-market apps stuffed with adverts and manipulative reward loops. I wanted to build something that does not try to chain children to a screen, but makes them think and grow through play.

That is how SmartKiddos® was born — my own, trademark-protected digital games platform.

In our home the tablet never means “playtime” — it is one option among many, alongside books, LEGO, board games, drawing, or running around outside.

Preparing for a digital future

I believe you cannot prepare children for the digital world by shutting them out of it entirely. Technology will be part of their learning, their work and their everyday life. Sooner or later they will need to move through digital spaces confidently, deliberately and within healthy limits.

That is why, instead of simply measuring screen time, it is time to focus on the quality of the content — because there is an enormous difference between passive consumption and active, meaningful learning.

I firmly reject unfounded scaremongering and catchy phrases like “digital autism” or “digital dementia”. Social media may be flooded with five-minute, clickbait explanations of the world, but there is a great deal of serious, credible research on this subject. Rather than demonising technology, I focus on building skills and creating genuinely useful digital experiences.

Digital skills vary widely across Europe, and this fast-changing world often leaves parents and teachers uncertain. I set out to create a carefully considered, professionally defensible tool — a good option for anyone looking for a worthwhile alternative.

Development through a parent’s eyes

Behind SmartKiddos® there is not only professional commitment but my own experience as a mother. My son’s curiosity and openness towards maths, logic puzzles and construction games inspires me every day to keep our games genuinely thought-provoking, developmental and exciting. As a parent I see up close how children play, ask questions and learn — and how they become able to solve all kinds of problems on their own.

What we believe in

A safe digital space

A closed, advert-free environment where what awaits children really is play and progress.

Screen time worth having

Our games develop logic, memory, attention, problem-solving and creativity.

A calm, transparent experience

We do not build on endless scrolling and overstimulation, but on short, finishable sessions of five to ten minutes.

Parental control and moderation

We do not replace playing together, books or outdoor activity — we offer a considered digital option alongside them.

Play, learning, balance

With the right content and sensible limits, digital play develops problem-solving, creativity and persistence. What matters is that it never pushes aside sleep, movement, learning, friendships and hands-on experience.

Logic, creativity and thinking games in one place

Logic & strategy

Memory, Sudoku, Mastermind, Mahjong — for developing problem-solving thinking.

Creativity

Colouring, drawing and musical memory games — for imagination and fine motor skills.

Learning & knowledge

Flag quiz, fractions, word builder — school topics in playful form.

Digital skills

Tetris, block sudoku and aiming games — for mouse control, reaction time and spatial thinking.

Where and how can it be played?

Every game runs directly in the browser — nothing to download, install or update. It works the same on a tablet, a laptop and a desktop, and children stay here the whole time, in the safe environment of kiddos.games.

There is no app running in the background and there are no notifications luring children back: when the game is over, it really is over.

Help us keep building

Building a portal of this size takes hundreds of hours of work, even with AI tools. That work is already done, and the games on Kiddos remain free to play.

There are three realistic ways to sustain an initiative like this in the long run: showing adverts, support from the people who use it, or grant funding. We do not want adverts on the site, because a calm, safe, child-friendly environment matters to us. We will look into grants in future, but for now the running costs are covered by Premium subscriptions.

Every contribution goes straight back into SmartKiddos: software licences, hosting and infrastructure, and the creation of new games and learning levels.
